GRIST April conference in the Blue Mountains

Earlier this month, the GRIST team came together for an energising conference that was equal parts learning, camaraderie, and celebration. It was a fantastic opportunity to fine-tune our skills, exchange ideas, and recognise the dedication of our colleagues.

The spectacular vistas of the Blue Mountains (Ngurra country) delighted as did the art deco grandeur of the Hydro Majestic, the home base for our stay.

Day 1 was all about sharing insights and sharpening our tools. From captivating storytelling sessions that took unexpected twists to lightning-fast demos of our core models, it was a day filled with inspiration and creativity. Deb Merkenhof’s seamless ACDC demonstration in under 10 minutes left us all in awe, while Sean Francis' fresh perspective on engaging participants struck a chord with everyone. And who could forget Peter's clever netball analogy? It perfectly illustrated the balance of freedom and structure we strive for.

‘Sharpening the axe’ on Day 1

As we wrapped up the day, we took a moment to applaud Deb for her remarkable 20-year journey with GRIST—a testament to her dedication and the strong bonds we share as a team.

Congratulations Deb!

Day 2 ushered in discussions about the future of our business and the role of AI in shaping it. From Stacey Makshakova's introduction of BON, our new virtual coach, to Dave McQueen's thought-provoking exercise on embracing an AI mindset, each session sparked lively conversations and new ideas. Caitlin Ziegler's presentation on a client case study showcased the transformative potential of AI-driven learning strategies, while Kate Goldby's initiative to incorporate AI into our daily routines set the stage for ongoing growth and innovation.

Peter Grist reflected that Day 2 was “truly a masterclass in change management”. Many of us began the day with a mix of fear and skepticism, only to leave feeling energised and curious about the possibilities ahead. “The level of engagement and subsequent action around AI after the conference has been unprecedented—a true testament to the transformative impact of our time together.”

Embracing AI with enthusiasm

Kate Goldby

Kate has spent years honing her ability to pick up on the most nuanced conversation behaviours. She spends much of her time eavesdropping on customer-consultant interactions to identify how organisations can deliver the experience that customers deserve. Kate is the GRIST team member most likely to be asked to help with something outside her remit, and it’s her can-do attitude that makes her such a valued part of the GRIST team.
